OBJECTIVES
This course will equip the personnel and staff of BRUNEI TIMES SDN. BHD. with the ability in dealing with the injuries most likely to occur at workpplace and in every day life, especially in an emergency situation.
COURSE CONTENT
- Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing and Circulation (D.R.A.B.C.) action plan
- Alternative recovery position for unconscious casualty
- Expired Air Recususcitation (EAR)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Choking
- Recognising and managing heart condition
- Controlling external bleeding
- Recognising and managing a casualty with broken bones
- Recognising and managing a casualty with soft tissue injury from sharp objects for example: knives etc.
- Convulsion / Fever
- Fractures and Dislocation
- Burns and Scalds
- Electrical injury
- Animals / Insects bites
EXPECTED OUTCOME
At the end of this course participants will be able to:
- Assess a casualty
- Care for an unconscious casualty
- Resuscitate a non-breathing casualty
- Resuscitate a non-breathing, pulseless casualty
- Care for a casualty with teh heart condition
- Manage a casualty who is bleeding externally
Successfull participants will be able, in real situations, to render life saving and basic first aid to casualties in need.
NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS : 12-24 participants per session
COURSE DURATION:
- The total course program will take 2 days (16 hours intensive program) in 2 sessions (morning and afternoon)
Morning : 8.00am - 12.00pm (4 hours)
Afternoon : 1.30pm - 5.00pm (4 hours)
DATE OF COMMENCEMENT
Available month for the BLS course are as follows and is to be confirmed by BRUNEI TIMES SDN. BHD. as soon as possible:
- 12th and 13th August 2009 (Wednesday and Thursday)
- 21st and 22nd October 2009 (Wednesday and Thursday)
- 18th and 19th November 2009 (Wednesday and Thursday)
- 9th and 10th December 2009 (Wednesday and Thursday)
- 16th and 17th December 2009 (Wednesday and Thursday)
VISUAL AIDS : LCD projector, flip chart, laptop and microphone and otehr required technical equipment will be provided by RNCS.

Kg. Kiarong, BSB.
REFRESHMENTS: Light refreshments will be provided by RNCS during Coffee and Tea Break.
CERTIFICATE : The participants will be assessed individually on theory and practical skills upon completion of the course adn only then the certificates will be issued.
HAND-OUTS: First Aid notes will be provided to each participant for reference.
QUALIFIED AND EXPERIENCED INSTRUCTORS : The course will be conducted by qualified and experienced instructors and first aiders.
